Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood

Oryx and Crake is to environmentalism what the Handmaid's Tale is to feminism.

Atwood casts an acerbic eye over the state of the planet and imagines what happens if we fail to act. Eerily prescient in her thinking, she nonetheless manages to keep a dry sense of humour to hand; making this an entertaining and illuminating read. As an added bonus, Jimmy the Snowman has to be one of the most endearing literary characters ever written.
