When the Apricots Bloom by Gina Wilkinson

This is the story of three different Baghdadi women whose lives intertwine, but not through choice. It is the era of Saddam Hussein. Iraq is largely isolated from the rest of the world. Families live in fear of the secret police and neighbours inform on each other to survive. Huda and Raina were childhood friends but are estranged through tragedy, Ally is the naïve wife of an Australian diplomat trying to find her way in this alien environment. These women are thrust together and are forced to learn to trust each other to protect themselves and their families. Based on the author's own experiences of living in Iraq during the 1970/1980's.
